They’re one of the most anticipated events in the beauty industry year. But this year’s Beauty Advent calendars reveal changing consumer behaviour, retail strategy and brand priorities.

From early waitlists and premium price points to sustainability messaging and product discovery, they show where the industry is heading.

Christmas Starts Earlier Every Year

If it feels like advent calendars get earlier every year, it’s because they do!

Major retailers including Space NK, Liberty, Harrods, Sephora and Cult Beauty have already opened waitlists, revealed products or started taking pre-orders before the end of August.

Waitlists create anticipation, generate customer data and build momentum in the months leading up to Christmas.

And for retailers, advent calendars can be valuable for Q3 customer acquisition.

The Value Proposition Still Wins

Consumers may be spending carefully, but they will still invest when they feel they’re getting exceptional value.

Many of this year’s flagship calendars retail for £250-£300 while claiming product value well over £1,000.

📦 Harrods Beauty Advent Calendar

  • Price: £270
  • Value: £1,780+

📦 Space NK Beauty Advent Calendar

  • Price: £275
  • Value: £1,200+

📦 Liberty Beauty Advent Calendar

  • Price: £285
  • Value: £1,300+

Advent Calendars Are Discovery Platforms

One of the biggest shifts in recent years is the role advent calendars play in product discovery.

They have become powerful marketing platforms, combining product discovery, customer acquisition, loyalty building and premium positioning in a single festive package.

Brand Calendars Reward loyalty & Win New Fans

While retailer calendars are excellent for discovery, brand-owned advent calendars continue to play a valuable role in the market.

For loyal customers, they offer the chance to enjoy favourite products, discover new launches and often secure significant value across a brand’s portfolio. For newcomers, they provide a low-risk way to experience a range of products before committing to full-size purchases throughout the year.

Unlike multi-brand retailer calendars, brand calendars can immerse consumers in a complete brand experience, reinforcing identity, storytelling and product expertise.

  • Elemis‘ advent calendar offers a curated selection of hero products and newer innovations from across the range.
  • The Body Shop‘s advent calendars showcase its extensive bath, body and skincare collections while introducing customers to products they may not have tried.
  • Bamford‘s advent calendar reflects growing demand for wellbeing-led gifting, combining skincare, body care and lifestyle products in a premium brand experience.

For beauty brands, advent calendars have become much more than a seasonal gift. They are a powerful way to reward loyal customers, encourage trial, and create excitement around both established favourites and new launches ahead of the Christmas period.

Consumers Are Looking Beyond Product Counts

A few years ago, marketing focused heavily on the number of products included.

Today’s savvy shoppers are asking: how many of those products are full size rather than samples?

Journalists and reviewers are increasingly evaluating calendars based on the balance of full-size products versus minis, and retailers are highlighting these figures more prominently in their marketing.

  • Harrods includes 21 full-size products among 34 items.
  • Liberty includes 21 full-size products among 29 products.

This suggests a more informed consumer base focused on genuine value rather than headline numbers.

Sustainability Is Increasingly Expected

Environmental impact has been a concern for some consumers, particularly around packaging design and materials.

Increasingly, sustainability is positioned as a standard expectation rather than the primary selling point.

For beauty businesses, this reflects a broader industry trend. Sustainable packaging is increasingly becoming a prerequisite rather than a differentiator.

Beauty Advent Calendars Are Here to Stay

Industry reporting notes that beauty advent calendars are now the second most popular after traditional chocolate calendars, with particularly strong engagement from younger consumers.

As the category continues to mature, advent calendars are evolving into something much bigger than festive gifting.

They are building brand awareness, driving product trial, generating customer data, supporting loyalty programmes and creating excitement around both established and emerging brands.

The Bigger Picture

The Advent Calendar category has become a powerful retail marketing platform combining:

  • Customer acquisition
  • Product discovery
  • Brand sampling
  • Loyalty building
  • Premium positioning
  • Data collection through waitlists and pre-orders
