Year one done! Emily’s Q&A about her first year at Arthur Edward

To mark Emily’s first work anniversary at Arthur Edward, we ask her 10 quick-fire questions about working here, and beauty industry recruitment.

Meet the Team: Emily Hockings

Q1: How did you hear about Arthur Edward, and what persuaded you to join?

I first heard about Arthur Edward through a recommendation from someone in the industry. As I looked into the business more in-depth, I saw how many amazing roles they had advertised and wanted to know more.

At my first chat with Heidi, I instantly felt excited and knew it was the right move for me. I have always worked in the beauty industry, even before moving into recruitment. So when I learned more about the clients we partner with, some of whom I’ve known for years, it was the perfect role!

Q2: Has the job and the company turned out to be as you expected?

I feel like it has exceeded my expectations. I love the way that we work as a team and that I can lead on all Marketing recruitment.

Q3: Did anything surprise you about the culture here?

There is so much flexibility. Right from the start, when Heidi found out I have a young son, she told me to never miss any opportunities with him like nursery events or appointments.

Meet the Team: Heidi Bannister

I’m able to do the childcare pickups, drop-offs, and evening routine. This is super important to me as mum guilt is such a real thing! We work around what works for us, and if that means doing extra work in the evening, that isn’t an issue at all for me.

Oh, and I can’t forget about the 4-day week. Also, as I mentioned previously, we work as a team, we work collaboratively, and we want the team as a whole to do well – the last year has shown that with our achievements!

Q4: What do you enjoy most about your job?

It’s the feeling of being able to help people secure a new role, especially when they are out of work, and just hearing how grateful they are – it’s the best feeling. But also helping our clients secure the right talent and seeing their teams or brands excel.

Q5: Has your view of the beauty industry changed since joining Arthur Edward?

I love it even more! I love hearing about new products, launches, and seeing some of the amazing campaigns.

Q6: Any unexpected skills you’ve developed in your first year here?

Can I class shopping as one? Working with these brands makes me buy a lot more products (if that’s possible)!

Q7: Does the company’s approach to flexibility contribute to your job satisfaction and productivity?

Definitely, I’m so happy in this role and it makes me work as hard as I can so that I give back to the company.

Q8: Have any clients particularly impressed you as employers this year?

This year, I’ve worked closely with Color Wow on several roles in marketing, sales and customer service. Their hiring team have been amazing to work with, and I’m hugely impressed by them as employers, and as a brand of course!

More recently, we started helping a luxury fragrance brand that’s expanding in the UK to develop their Marketing division. The Founders are amazing to work with – fast with feedback and interviews, and receptive to our industry experience on the best way to create a great candidate experience, which is so important from a brand perspective.

Q9: What’s the most fascinating beauty industry trend or innovation you’ve encountered through your work here?

I LOVE that skincare is being formulated into bodycare products as well as cosmetics. Rather than covering up imperfections, the industry is moving towards fixing them and having healthy, glowing skin.

Q10: And in the film about Arthur Edward, who would play you?

Elle Woods from Legally Blonde – not Reese Witherspoon the actress, but Elle Woods the character. She’s fun and energetic, and seems a bit ditzy, but she knows what she wants and works hard to get it!
